Eco-Amritsar, a project based public movement, which was launched by EcoSikh in June 2012, recently started campaigning for Amritsar Foundation Day, the day when Sri Guru RamDas Sahib founded the city in the year 1577, Harr Vadi 13, for an aim towards green and sustainable Amritsar. This year the day is 6th July.
We owe our existence in the city of Amritsar to Guru Ram Dass jee, who established Chak Ramdasspur in 1577. In its 436th year of existence, we are now a bustling city. The challenges to its cleanliness, health and hygiene are many, and even more manifold since we now gets upward of 25 million pilgrims and tourists during the year. To address the needs of this abundant carrying capacity, there is the need for all of us to be responsible hosts and citizens as well. Our maxim therefore is: “Amritsar-My City, My Pride, My Responsibility!”
Our focus areas shall be:
- Save, harvest and reuse water
- Reduce and utilize waste: vermi-composting/kitchen gardening
- Go natural and organic-Say no to chemicals.
- Audit & Conserve energy
- Sustained greenification
- Clean and beautify city
