The city of the Golden Temple, Amritsar has been selected as one of the 10 iconic places in India under the Swachhe Bharat program to be made clean and pilgrim friendly. The city, which has also lately been selected under the various central Government schemes such as Swachhe Bharat, Hriday, Amrut and Smart City programmes, can look forward to better days in the future.
While the passageways to the Golden temple have been made walkways and have been well paved, energy efficient lighting, mechanised cleaning equipment and visually improved facades shall ensure an enhanced pilgrim experience.
Addressing the national visual media partner NDTV at the event, Gunbir Singh, Chairman, EcoAmritsar said, “It is heartening to note that the new administration headed by the Deputy Commissioner Roojam & Municipal Commissioner Giri is providing the required leadership for positive change to the city supported by state and national schemes. We feel that our 5 year goal to make a difference by 2017 has been provided an impetus under this program since the government has joined hands with us citizens and ngo’s for cleanliness. For once there is cause for expectation of better times, cleanliness and visible change in the management of civic affairs of the city.”
