EcoSikh and Local Stakeholders Unite for Green Amritsar


Amritsar, June 18, 2012; Dr. Rajwant Singh, President of EcoSikh, from Washington is visiting Punjab and other states from 13th June – 6th July, 2011. During these four weeks EcoSikh will be bringing together religious and political leaders, and social activists and to conduct several consultative sessions with government and non-government organizations in support of the Green Amritsar initiave.
EcoSikh was launched in June 2009 in collaboration with UN to highlight Sikh environmental thought and activism based on Sikh teachings. On June 30th EcoSikh will be celebrating its 3rd anniversary in Amritsar.
Last year in November, Amritsar joined the Green Pilgrimage Network as one of the nine founding member cities, in Assisi, Italy. Former DC Kahn Singh Pannu and other delegation represented the city at Assisi and this effort was spearheaded by EcoSikh.
EcoSikh has also popularized March 14th to be celebrated as Sikh Environment day and over 1500 organizations have joined and endorsed this initiative worldwide.
