Ghuggi recently acted in the hit Punjabi movie, ‘Ardas‘ and received a world-wide acclaim from movie critics and fans for his lead role.  In this movie, which touched the serious issues like female foeticide and drug menace facing Punjab, he established himself as a versatile actor.  His new movie ‘Darra‘ is set to release soon.
While commenting on his attending the EcoSikh event, Ghuggi said, “I am certainly impressed by the work done by EcoSikh in the area of environment.  Environmental degradation and climate change are the great threats facing not only Punjab and India as a whole country but the entire world. I felt obliged to be part of this great cause. This is a serious issue facing the entire humanity.”
Dr. Rajwant Singh, President of EcoSikh, said, “We are thrilled that an actor of this stature will join us this year. We look forward to welcoming him and hearing him at the Gala.”
EcoSikh, since its inception in 2009, has engaged the Sikh community in Punjab and around the globe to work on environmental and climate change issues. It has recently been able to work with the SGPC to make the langar (free meal to 100,000 daily) at the Golden Temple in Amritsar organic. EcoSikh has been invited by the White House as well as the United Nations and the French Government during the climate change deliberations last year in Paris. It maintains a four-member staff in Washington and in Punjab. It is also involved in increasing green cover in the sacred city of Amritsar and educating farmers on the effects of overusing chemicals in Punjab. EcoSikh has also started and popularized Sikh Environment Day which is now marked by Sikh institutions on March 14 every year.

Ghuggi started his career as a Punjabi actor in Jalandhar Doordarshan Tele-films. He appeared in a lead role in a TV soap opera Parchhaven, produced by Jalandhar Doordarshan. However, he received much attention only after participating in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge reality show on STAR One TV.
He later appeared in another show Hans Baliye on Star One TV with his wife Kuljeet Kaur and won the contest. He has acted as a comedian in Bollywood movies and Punjabi movies as such, Namastey London, Race, Asa Nu Maan Watna Da, Yaara Naal Bahaara, Humko Deewana Kar Gaye, Singh Is Kinng, Mera Pind, Jijja Ji, Jag Jeondeyan De Mele, Tera Mera Ki Rishta, Speedy Singhs and Munde UK De.
He played the role of Sundeep Cheema in “Paaji in Trouble” (later renamed to Bhaji in Problem) Punjabi movie with Akshay Kumar.
In addition to Ghuggi, EcoSikh gala is featuring Hardeep Walia, CEO of Motif Investing, a globally known investment genius, based in Silicon Valley. Anokha, University of Maryland’s South Asian Acappella group, which has performed for the Obamas at the White House, will also be performing at the gala.
