439th Amritsar Foundation Day Celebrations – Begins

EcoAmritsar has been on the forefront in the field of environmental conservation and thereby preserving our Heritage city. The celebrations for Amritsar Foundation Day (AFD) were truly inspiring as all the like-minded organizations and educational institutions actively took part in the celebration of this event by organizing lectures, Katha, Kirtan and even the joined the parade despite the continuous rain.
“AMRITSAR FOUNDATION DAY” has been popularized by EcoAmritsar since 2013 with a focus to achieve the goal of a cleaner and greener Amritsar. This day corresponds back to the day when Sri Guru Ram Das Ji, the Fourth master founded the city in 1577, Harr Vadi 13. This year it fell on 2nd July, 2016. Each and every individual, organization and every educational institution had put their special effort to make this day a special day.
Events dedicated to Amritsar Foundation Day
DAY 1
May 28, 2016: The celebrations for Amritsar Foundation Day began at Sri Guru Har Krishan Public Senior Secondary School, Majitha Road Bye Pass, Amritsar.

A function were organized in the main auditorium and around 150 participant celebrated the event. The Function was presided over by Mr. S. K. Sagar, Divisional Forest Officer, Amritsar. Gunbir Singh, Chairman, EcoAmritsar and Er. Jaspal Singh (Member In charge, Chief Khalsa Dewan) were the Guests of honor. Among the participants, were the students and teachers of the school, who took keen interest to interact with the Chief Guest Mr. S.K. Sagar as he delivered his key note address in an interactive way.He presented environmental challenges in an impressive way and remedial opportunities were discussed with the participating students. Students discussed the detrimental effects of greenhouse gases, various pollutants and deforestation. Welcome address was delivered by Principal Mrs. Dapinder Kaur ji.
A small documentary, depicting deteriorating effects of deforestation and its effect on the wellbeing of humanity was also screened. At the end of the function. Gunbir Singh, Chairman, EcoAmritsar, summed up the event by stressing upon the action oriented solutions to acute problem of climate change. On this event, a field demonstration of compost preparation was conducted by Sumeet Singh, Vermi Compost Expert. A compost pit was inaugurated by Gunbir Singh ji. Chairman, Eco-Amritsar.

June 26, 2016: Celebrating Amritsar Foundation Day, Eco-Amritsar team, on June 26th, 2016 organised an awareness event at the Jorha Ghar, Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji, Shaheed Ganj Sahib, Amritsar. The event was attended by 70 sewadaars. They were addressed by The President, Jorha Khana, S. Surinder Singh Ragi. He apprised the sangat about the foundation of Amritsar city. Speaking on the occasion he urged the holy congregation to join the awareness procession that is to be started from Sri Santokh Sar Sahib on July 2nd, 2016. Speaking on the occasion, Gurjit Singh, Project Administrator, Eco-Amritsar, apprised the holy congregation about the vision of Sikh gurus in context to economic development of humanity. He also urged the holy congregation to join the Amritsar Foundation day Parade. The event was assisted by Mr. Guriqbal Singh by offering his volunteer services.
 
June 26, 2016: Celebrating AMRITSAR FOUNDATION DAY 2016, interaction campaign with holy congregation was conducted at Harmandir Sahib on June 26th , 2016. Special interaction with youths was the main feature of this campaign. Youths were motivated to take part in AMRITSAR FOUNDATION DAY PARADE on July 2nd , 2016. Youths showed keen interest and interacted in a way that is very much concerned with the deteriorating condition of environment of Amritsar.
DAY 3
July 1, 2016: An event was organised by Bhai Guriqbal Singh Ji and his team celebrating Amritsar Foundation Day . This event was completely dedicated to the Foundation city and katha kirtan samagam was organised. Ravneet Singh, EcoSikh Project Manager shared his concern about the ever degrading situation of the Holy city Amritsar and expressed his views and ideas for saving the water and raising the forest cover, thereby reducing the air pollution. Bhai GurIqbal Singh also requested the sangat to join in their efforts for the betterment of the ecological health of the city.

July 1, 2016: Celebrating the Amritsar Foundation Day, On July 1st, 2016, an event was organized at Bhai Veer Singh Ji Niwas Asthan. A vermin compost pit was inaugurated by Mr. B. Anand IAS, Joint Secretary, Central heritage Mission and Mrs. Sonali Giri IAS, Manuscripts from 1899Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Amritsar. Mr.B Anand specially praised the efforts made by Ecosikh team and commended the conservation of available energy and nutrients in plant residues. Speaking on the occasion, Mrs, Sonali Giri IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, said that these type of projects are the need of the hour. These projects should be started whole heartedly as they will help to curb the major chunk of carbon release to the environment which in turn control the global warming. Present on the occasion was S. Gunbir Singh, Chairman Eco-Amritsar and the main facilitator of this vermin compost pit inauguration ceremony. This event was also attended by Ravneet Singh, manager, South Asia, Gurjit Singh, Project Administrator, Eco-Amritsar. Among the volunteers were Puneet watts, Education Officer, WWF, Kawapreet Singh Judge and Sunaik Singh.
